Frequently asked questions
UltraPlaner is a free web app for ultracycling: load GPX, plan a route or use Ride — supply points, control points (CP/Sleep), elevation profile, ETA, filters, favorites, cheat sheet and export (Wahoo cloud, GPX/FIT). POI data comes from OpenStreetMap/Geofabrik.
Upload GPX, draw a route or scan your location under Ride. UltraPlaner searches POIs within an adjustable distance (or in the surrounding area). Set filters, check ETA/opening hours, tap favorites ★ and control points (⚑ CP/Sleep) — then export. Red areas on the elevation profile = supply gaps (≥ approx. 25 km without a POI at current filters). Control points stay where you tap; km values come from the nearest route point and end up in GPX/FIT/cheat sheet.
61 Geofabrik regions in Europe (incl. DACH, Iberia incl. islands, UK, Scandinavia, Baltics, Balkans, Greece, France as sub-extracts). Categories: fuel, supermarkets, food service, drinking water, drinks, bike, hotel, camping. Radius along route, categories on/off, filter “open at ETA”; show all markers if needed (otherwise light thinning).
Opening hours come from OpenStreetMap when tagged. “No data” does not mean closed: the “open at ETA” filter only hides known closed times; unknown POIs and favorites stay visible. Drinking fountains/springs/cemeteries count as always available. Use “Google Maps navigation” for often up-to-date hours on site. Elevation profile: climbs/passes, click jumps to the spot; red = supply gaps at your filters.
Usable in the mobile browser — bottom nav, larger buttons, one accordion at a time. As a PWA on the home screen: Android browser menu → Install; iPhone Share → Show More → Add to Home Screen — launches without browser chrome, still ultraplaner.com. Location (Ride / ride mode): on iPhone tap left in the Safari address bar → Website Settings → Location → Allow (device Location Services alone are not enough). Offline: route/POIs from cache, basemap needs network.
Only starred favorites ★ and control points (⚑) become stops — not every POI on the map (Garmin limit ~200 course points). Wahoo: “Connect Wahoo” → “Send to Wahoo”. Garmin Edge: save FIT course → USB mass storage → Garmin/NewFiles (not Connect — course points are often lost there). COROS Dura: on desktop “Send to COROS” (scan QR) or download GPX → open and save in the COROS app → Explore → route library → send to Dura (no cloud API like Wahoo). Strava/Komoot: GPX; waypoints vary by app.
Top navigation → “Routes” = reopen GPX and planned routes on this device — Ride maps are not saved. “Take route offline” = map + POIs without internet along the route. Share link ~180 days online.
Share ideas via the form below — goes straight to me (Alex). Wahoo cloud push is live; Garmin stays FIT/USB for now (Connect API only after partner access). COROS Cloud API is requested and planned once partner access is available — until then QR/GPX. We keep improving opening-hours hints via OSM.
